Interpretive
programs are
a very important
part of what we do here at Golden Spike National
Historic Site. It is our responsibility and obligation to ensure that
each visitor has the opportunity to learn the history of the
transcontinental railroad and its role in America's development and
heritage.
Informal Ranger
Talks: Learn about
the history of the transcontinental railroad and find out about
activities you can do and exhibits you can see during your visit to
Golden Spike National Historic Site.
Programs are scheduled each day during
the summer season and their availability is effected by staffing,
special events, group reservations, and other
factors.
Engine House Tour:
Golden Spike National Historic Site is home to the
steam locomotives Jupiter and No.
119. These engines are fully-functional
replicas of the original locomotives that met here
on May 10, 1869, for the "Wedding of the Rails"
ceremony. If you would like to see the
Jupiter and No. 119, ranger-led tours
of the engine house are available during the winter
months on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Reenactment Ceremony:
Step back in time to join Leland Stanford, Thomas
Durant, and others to relive one of our nation's
proudest moments. Reenactments of the "Golden Spike"
ceremony are held at trackside, the same location
where the original ceremony was held over 130 years
ago on May 10, 1869.
