Student Employment Opportunities at Governors Island National Monument

We are accepting applications for full time seasonal positions that begin in mid-May of 2012. In order to apply for these opportunities, you must be a post-high school student currently enrolled at least half time in a degree- or certificate-granting program. Have a unique experience as a Park Guide with the National Park Service at Governors Island National Monument, a place that has played a pivotal role in the history of New York City. You will have opportunities to hone your skills in the areas of public speaking, basic research, children's programming, event planning and living history/historic weapons demonstrations. If you are a student enrolled at least half-time in college or vocational school through at least the end of August, 2012, you are eligible to apply for one of our positions under the Student Temporary Experience Program (STEP). During the first two weeks of training, we work an 8.5 hour schedule Monday - Friday. After the two-week training period, we work a full time 8.5 hour schedule 5 days/week, Wednesday - Sunday (days off are Mondays and Tuesdays). Must be able to start as early as 8:30 AM on some days. We may also be offering a later schedule, where some evening work will be required. Please ask for more details. Applications are considered in the order that they are received. Did You Know?
In 1860, nearly half of the enlisted men stationed on Governors Island had immigrated to New York from either Ireland or Germany. Immigrants also took their first jobs "off the boat" as maids and servants in the officers' homes on the island.
