Where To Eat
 

Wednesday - Friday Access:

  • There will be no food or drinking water on the island on these days.
  • We recommend that you carry two quarts (about 2 Liters) of water and a salty snack.
  • There are many eating establishments in Lower Manhattan.

Saturday and Sunday Access:

  • A food cart vendor serving a variety of fare, including bottled water, may be available on these days.
  • Please feel free to bring a picnic lunch.  Picnic tables and shaded green-space is available.
  • Alcohol is not permitted on Governors Island.
  • There are also many eating establishments in Lower Manhattan.

Did You Know?
None of the trees at Governors Island are indigenous to the island. Large shrubbery was razed to provide cannon clear firing range to the surrounding harbor. The reintroduction of arbors in the 1870s reflects the island’s transition from a fortification into more of a residential community.
