Where To Eat

During the public access season:

  • On weekends, the Governors Island Food Court showcases a number of food truck/cart vendors that serve a variety of fare, from burgers and ice cream to jerk chicken and empanadas!
  • You may also feel free to bring a picnic lunch. Picnic tables and shaded green-space is available.
  • Visitors are not permitted to bring alcohol or any glass bottles onto the island. Beer and wine is available for purchase on the island at the Governors Beach Club.
  • There are also many eating establishments in Lower Manhattan. Feel free to bring your favorite take-out to the island!


Did You Know?

John Jay

Fort Jay was named after John Jay, who served as the second governor of New York, an office he held during construction of the fort. One of the Founding Fathers of the United States, Jay also served as the first Secretary of Foreign Affairs and as the first Chief Justice of Supreme Court.
