Saturday, June 27 - Edwin Burrows presents  Forgotten Patriots: The Untold Story of American Prisoners During the Revolutionary War


Location: Meet at Pershing Hall at 2:30 PM.

Sunday, July 12 - The Long Island Writers' Guild Returns to Governors Island for a Public Reading

Location: Meet at Pershing Hall at 1:00 PM. Program lasts until 4:00 PM.

Join members of the
Long Island Writers’ Guild for a public reading of original works.


Topics will explore the relationship between Long Island and New York City. Some of these works are found in the Guild’s anthology - 2001: A Long Island Odyssey. 


If you would like to read your original work we will have an open mic on a time available basis.  

All work needs to be appropriate for a family audience.

Saturday, July 18 - The Wyckoff Farmhouse Museum Presents a Colonial Dutch Experience for Children.

 

Location: Nolan Park on Governors Island.   This program will run continually from 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM (the last program ends at 3:00 PM).

 

Join members of the Wyckoff Farmhouse Museum to discover colonial Dutch history through the hands-on activity of apple pressing.  

 

This program is part of the Hudson Heritage Event Series, a partnership between the Wyckoff Farmhouse Museum and the National Park Service Lecture Series  to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s exploration of New York Harbor.

 

Sunday, July 19 - Dr. Sean Sawyer – Columbia University – The Wyckoff Family of Brooklyn


Location: Meet at the Commanding Officers House (also called the Admiral's House) in Nolan Park at 1:30 PM.

 

Celebrate the 400th Anniversary of Colonial Dutch America by exploring the history of the Wyckoff family, one of the first Dutch settlers of Brooklyn.


This lecture is a part of the Hudson Heritage Event Series, a partnership between the Wyckoff Farmhouse Museum and the National Park Service Lecture Series  to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Hudson’s exploration of New York Harbor. 

Sunday, July 19 - “Big Apple Aviation” by Jessica Kratz, the Greenbelt Nature Center Coordinator for New York City Parks and Recreation

Location: Meet at the Commanding Officer's House (aka the Admiral's House) at 2:30 PM

Ms. Kratz will present the story New York City in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Hudson – Fulton Celebration.

Saturday, July 25 - Historical Balladeer, Linda Russell presents an afternoon of history and song.

Location: Meet at the Commanding Officer's House (also called the Admiral's House) in Nolan Park at 2:30 PM

Join Linda Russell for an exploration of the Hudson River through song.

Sunday, July 26 - Wyckoff Farmhouse Museum Presents a Dutch Colonial Experience - Arts and Crafts for Children.

Location: Fort Jay on Governors Island. This program will run continually from 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM (the last program ends at 3:00 PM).

Join members of the Wyckoff Farmhouse Museum to discover colonial Dutch history through the creation of "delft" tiles, a Dutch craft.  

This lecture is a part of the Hudson Heritage Event Series, a partnership between the Wyckoff Farmhouse Museum and the National Park Service Lecture Series  to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Hudson’s exploration of New York Harbor.

Saturday, August 8 - "The Quality of Mercy: Abraham Lincoln and the Power to Pardon"

Location: Commanding Officer's House (also called the Admiral's House) located in Nolan Park at 2:30 PM.


Join accomplished author and historian Ron Soodalter as he explores the fate of Confederate John Yates Beall who was imprisoned on Governors Island.

Saturday, September 19 - Author Eric Sanderson presents Mannahatta: A Natural History of New York City

 

Location: Meet at Pershing Hall at in Nolan Park 2:30 PM

 

Join Eric Sanderson and uncover the natural landscape of New York City in 1609.

 

The exhibit, "Mannahatta/Manhattan: A Natural History of New York City," is currently on display from May 20 through Oct 12 at the Museum of the City of New York.
