NPS Photo The NY 119th carries out a historic weapons demonstration Drilling and Historic Weapons Demonstrations 11:00, 12:30 & 3:30 - Join members of Colonel Albert Pawling’s Levies and the 119th NY Volunteers for drilling demonstrations that re veal the differences between the life of a soldier in the American Revolution and in the Civil War. Historic weapons demonstration to follow. Please meet at the Historic Weapons Field. Did You Know?
In 1860, nearly half of the enlisted men stationed on Governors Island had immigrated to New York from either Ireland or Germany. Immigrants also took their first jobs "off the boat" as maids and servants in the officers' homes on the island.
