Filming and Photography

For more information about film and photography permits anywhere within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, including application forms and insurance requirements, please click on the Permit Application link below.

Generally speaking, a couple taking an engagement/wedding photo or a similar casual shoot involving up to 5 people that does not include any props or models, is not in a restricted area, and does not have a significant impact on the park (due to equipment or other reasons) does not require a photography permit from the Office of Special Park Uses. The photographer may need a business permit from the Office of Business Management. Contact a permit specialist if you have any questions.

Permit Applications

Fee Structure

There are four fees associated with your film or photography permit. These fees are an estimate only.

Application fees for a small shoot (half day or full day) are $400 and for a large shoot are $1000. These fees are due with your application and are non-refundable but do go towards the cost of your permit fee.

Permit fees for a small half day film/photo/video shoot: $400. For a small full day film/photo/video shoot: $800. Large shoots can range from $3500 to $7500 or more. A half day shoot is 6 hours maximum.

Location fees range from $50 to $750 depending on the number of people in your cast plus crew combined. Still photography with fewer than 11 people has a location fee of $50. Video or film with fewer than 11 people has a location fee of $150.

Staffing fees are required whenever National Park Service Rangers or US Park Police officers supervise your shoot. This is determined by your permit specialist. Location and size of the crew are the main reason a shoot would need park supervision. Not all shoots require supervision. Ranger time is $85/hour for a minimum of 4 hours. Paid travel time is sometimes required. Park Police will bill you after your shoot, but Ranger fees must be paid in advance.

Most fees are non-refundable. Please contact your permit specialist before paying. Payment should be made with a credit card. We will email you a receipt.
