Training is an important aspect of all fire management activities to ensure safe and successful operations. Minimum interagency training requirements are established for fire positions by NWCG, the National Wildfire Coordinating Group.

Overview of Training and Qualifications
An introduction to wildland fire training and qualifications on the NPS Fire and Fire Aviation website.

Minimum Training Requirements
The NWCG "Wildland and Prescribed Fire Qualifications System Guide" (PMS 310-1) lists the minimum training required for all fire positions. See the most recent version of this guide for current requirements.

Additional Information for Department of the Interior Agencies
"Red Book" Interagency Standards for Fire and Fire Aviation Operations - see Chapter 13 (Training). This publication describes additional training and certification requirements for the National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and the Bureau of Land Management.

Offered each year by Marin County Fire Department through the College of Marin. Fire Management staff from Point Reyes National Seashore and Golden Gate National Recreation Area assist with the field exercises.
