Golden Gate National Recreational Area
Current Fire Information

Wildfires:
There are no fires burning in Golden Gate National Recreation Area at this time.

Prescribed fires:
No prescribed fires are currently in progress.

Two prescribed fire projects which were planned for fall 2009, are now postponed until 2010, due to unusually early heavy rains.

One day of burning at Milagra Ridge near Pacifica and one day of burning in the Marin Headlands west of Sausalito will be done to learn how to improve critical habitat for endangered Mission blue butterflies. These butterfly restoration burns will be confined to small metal burn boxes that are 5 meters by 5 meters in area and 1 meter in height.

Two days of burning in the Marin Headlands along Bobcat Trail in Gerbode Valley will be done to remove an infestation of tall fescue, an invasive, non-native grass. Burning will be done in 10 to 20 acre subunits for a total project area of 60 acres.
