San Francisco, CA- Wondering what "that" project is? Have questions about a plan you heard about or saw on the web? Want to get more INVOLVED in the management of your national parks? Come to an Open House! In San Francisco this Tuesday, March 19, 2013 from 4:30 to 6:30. Golden Gate National Parks has about 16 million visitors per year, but we often do not hear from most of them about what is going on or being planned. We want you to know that we hold three open houses each year- one in each county we manage land in- to showcase ideas and answer question about projects. Please drop by any or all of these public meetings. The next meeting is Tuesday, March 19, 2013, from 4:30-6:30PM in the General's Residence at Fort Mason, (located at the intersection of Bay and Franklin Streets.)
At that meeting we will have project managers and planners presenting information about the planned +five month closure of Muir Beach while the parking lot is being reoriented, America's Cup races and events, park accessibility, different volunteer opportunities, restoring the historic landscape at Fort Mason, and much more.

HIGHLIGHTS OF SOME OF THE 22 PROJECTS TO BE PRESENTED:
Proposed improvements include constructing a restroom and a maintenance facility, and other minor enhancements. An environmental assessment for this proposed work will bereleasedthis spring.
Muir Beach Closed for Construction: Redwood Creek Restoration at Muir Beach Update
This final step of the project will include replacement of the parking lot. All access to Muir Beach will be CLOSED during construction, June to November. No services or restrooms available at Muir Beach during construction.
Improvements to Historic Landscape at Fort Mason (link to pdf of plan)
The park is continuing to improve to the historic landscape at Fort Mason. Work will include replacement of missing trees along Bay Street, restoration of the historic view at the Franklin Street entrance by removal of the aged plum trees, and improvements to better use and define the historic parade ground in front of the Hostel.
Bay Trail Phase 2/Fort Point Overlook
Scheduled to begin construction in October, once complete, it will extend the bicycle and pedestrian lanes on the Bay Trail segment and will include the creation of a viewpoint for the Golden Gate Bridge and Fort Point.
Battery East Parking Lot and Vista (near the Golden Gate Bridge Plaza)
Come review the design for the upcoming transformation of the Battery East parking lot and new overlook. Construction will begin late fall 2013 and finish in May 2014.
Cosco Busan- Recreational Use Restoration Projects
A list of projects approved for funding in Marin and San Francisco counties in 2013 using Cosco Busan settlement funds will be presented and public input will be welcomed on additional projects for NPS to consider.
Presidio Coastal Trail- An Update about the recent closure of the trail just north of the Pacific Overlook.

San Francisco Maritime National Historical ParkProjects and Exhibits
Learn more about this lesser known National Trail, and the history of Spanish Lt. Colonel Juan Bautista de Anza who founded the city of San Francisco.
