Spring 2011 Openings and Hours of Operation Announced

With the advent of warm weather, the National Park Service (NPS) announced today the spring schedule of operation for facilities at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.

The Carl Hayden Visitor Center is open daily from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m MST. The Navajo Bridge Interpretive Center is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. MST seven days a week.

The NPS entrance stations at Wahweap North and Wahweap South are open from 7a.m. – 5 p.m. MST daily. The Lone Rock Entrance station will open in mid-April.

Launch ramp hours are as follows:

· Wahweap Main: Saturday thru Thursday, 6 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Friday, 6 a.m. - 7 p.m. MST.

· Stateline: will remain closed until May 1st.

· Antelope Point: will open on April 1st.

· Bullfrog: Saturday thru Thursday, 7 a.m. - 6 p.m.; Friday, 7 a.m.- 8 p.m. MDT.

· Halls Crossing & Hite: Open; currently self-certification is accepted and required. As the season progresses self-certification will not be available when authorized personnel are available to issue launch certificates.

Boaters are reminded that a mussel free certificate is required prior to launching any watercraft. Please check the website at www.nps.gov/glca for the latest lakewide ramp times and certification requirements. The launching of motorized watercraft is currently prohibited at Lone Rock and Stanton Creek Beaches.

Dangling Rope Marina opened on March 1, allowing boaters the opportunity to purchase fuel between Wahweap and Bullfrog. Halls Crossing and Bullfrog operations will run on a spring schedule beginning April 1. Other Lake Powell Resorts & Marinas facilities are open or will be opening soon. Boat tours to Rainbow Bridge National Monument and other sites will run every day beginning April 1. Visitors should call the resort to get the latest information. For the Wahweap area, the number is 928-645-1125. For the Bullfrog area the number is 435-684-3000.

Antelope Point facilities are also getting ready for the coming season. Antelope Point floating restaurant, Ja’di To’oh, is open with reduced hours (11:00am to 9:00pm Thursday through Sunday). Ja’di To’oh will resume summer season schedule (11:00am-9:00pm 7 days a week) on April 7. To get the latest information on openings, visitors should call 928-645-5900.

Colorado River Discovery began their river trips in early March. For more information visitors may call 888-522-6644.

The ferry that operates between Bullfrog and Halls Crossing marinas will re-open for service on April 21. The ferry is owned by the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) and operated by Lake Powell Resorts & Marinas.
