Superintendent Stan Austin at Rainbow Bridge National Monument today announced that Tom Morris of Bartlett, Illinois has been selected as the grand prize winner in the Rainbow Bridge Centennial Photo Contest.
The photo contest took place this summer as one of a series of activities and events to commemorate the upcoming 100th anniversary of the establishment of Rainbow Bridge National Monument. President William Howard Taft on May 30, 1910 declared Rainbow Bridge a National Monument. The anniversary for the event is May 30, 2010.
Park visitors participating in the photo contest submitted digital photos online. The photos were judged by two professional photographers. Judging criteria included lighting, composition, and creativity. Mr. Morris’s grand prize winning photograph will be used to create a promotional poster commemorating Rainbow Bridge National Monument’s 100th anniversary. The top four winners in the photo contest are:
Grand Prize: Tom Morris, Morning at Rainbow Bridge
Second Prize: Barbara Lee, An Aerial View of Rainbow Bridge
Third Prize: Sondra Hickman, Soaring the Rainbow
Fourth Prize: Jack Quintero, Can You See Them?
All four winning photographs are posted on the Rainbow Bridge web site at: www.nps.gov/rabr. The NPS is planning additional activities leading up to the May 30 commemoration. Updates and additional information on upcoming centennial-related events will be posted on the Rainbow Bridge web site.
