Glen Canyon National Recreation Area announces a January 13 public meeting to discuss zebra and quagga mussel planning at Lake Powell.

Glen Canyon will host an open public meeting to invite comments and ideas from community members interested in quagga and zebra mussel prevention efforts on Lake Powell. The park is beginning to plan for the 2010 boating season and is evaluating ongoing practices and new options for protecting Lake Powell from invasive mussels spread by boats and other vessels. The park is reviewing practices such as launch restrictions and entrance station screening, along with new ideas such as a local boaters program.

Your ideas are needed! Glen Canyon staff will be on hand during this informal public meeting to answer questions and solicit ideas on how the park and community can best protect Lake Powell from quagga and zebra mussels.

The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, January 13, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at Glen Canyon headquarters, 691 Scenic View Drive, and is open to the public. For additional information, please contact park headquarters at (928)608-6200.
