Fee Free Weekend at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area
Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar announced free admission to all National Park Service sites, including Glen Canyon National Recreation Area (NRA), on August 14 and 15. This program, started by Secretary Salazar in 2008, helps families and communities engage with America’s Great Outdoors, reconnecting them with nature and creating opportunities for people to get outside, be active, and have fun.
Also plan to join ranger Cindy Adams for a free evening program "The Earthen Vessel" at the Wahweap Campground Amphitheatre on August 14 at 8:00 P.M. The Ancestral Puebloans created beautiful ceramic pots for cooking, serving, and trade. Ceramic ware – The Earthen Vessel – contained and protected seed corn, food, and water essential for survival. In much the same way, Glen Canyon is also an Earthen Vessel that protects vital life-sustaining elements.
Visitors are reminded that the fee waiver applies to entrance fees only and does not affect camping, boating or river use fees. For more information on fee-free opportunities in park units around the country, please visit www.nps.gov/findapark/feefreeparks.htm.
