What's New

What's New in the Park?
What's New on the Web site!
The links below will take you to information on the Web site that is updated frequently or is of a timely nature for this time of year.

June 30, 2009
Summer has arrived in the park and facilities and services are open for the summer. Check the links in the Plan Your Visit section for information on camping, lodging, and other outdoor activities in the park.

The park's has two new webcams. The Osprey Webcam is located at St. Mary Visitor Center. Very soon we hope to see new Osprey chicks in the nest. The Apgar Village webcam is the perfect spot to stop and wave to friends and family back home.

This summer there will be three fee-free weekends, so you might want to plan your visit to coincide with them. They are, June 20 & 21, July 18 & 19, and August 15 & 16. There will also be no fees charged on National Public Lands Day on September 26th and on Veterans Day on November 11.

Going-to-the-Sun Road Access
The Going-to-the-Sun Road is open for vehicular use. Visitors can drive the entire length of the road. There is still some snow up on top at Logan Pass, so be careful of hidden snow bridges and the general slippery nature of snowbanks.

Expect short delays through the areas where the road is being rehabilitated. For more information on the Going-to-the-Sun Road Project, see the links immediately above.

RSS Feed
We now have two feeds. The Washington Office for the NPS website has implemented an RSS Feed exclusively for News Releases. Although we had one in place already, we are going to get in line with the rest of the parks and start using their's for the News Releases. We will continue to use the one that was set up here for everything else (webcam news, blogs, happenings, etc...).

Summer Newspaper and Ranger-led Activities Schedules
The summer newspaper is online in the brochures section of the website. It contains almost everything you will need to know to plan and enjoy a summer trip to the park. Also check out the Ranger-led Activities Schedules. They contain a complete list of all the interpretive programs offered in the park. They are a great way to get to know the resource.

Backcountry Guide
The new Backcountry Camping Guide for 2009 is available online now. Look in the Plan Your Visit section for links to that and other summertime fun, as you plan your next visit to the park.

Widgets
Glacier's RRS Newsfeed Widget and the Webcam Widget have been updated and the bugs fixed. Both can be downloaded from our
Widget Page. The National Office of the NPS has also instituted an RSS feed for Press Releases only. We will be adjusting our's soon to accommodate theirs. Watch for a message if you are signed up to the existing one.

Glacier's Blogs
Rangers and park staff fill you in on what's happening in the park and with their jobs through Glacier's new Blogs.

Beargrass

Did You Know?
Did you know that once Beargrass blooms and then dies, a new stalk will bloom 5-10 years after that?
