WEST GLACIER, MONT. – National Park Service (NPS) officials today announce the selection of Mule Shoe Outfitters, LLC as the concessioner for guided horseback trail rides and pack animal services in Glacier National Park. The new 10-year concession contract commences January 2007. Mule Shoe Outfitters has held a contract for these services since 1994. Three proposals were received in response to the NPS prospectus for this new concession contract that was published in March 2006 for a 60-day solicitation period. As the current operator, Mule Shoe Outfitters retained a "right of preference" in the reissuing process. This preferential "right" granted Mule Shoe Outfitters the option to meet the terms of another offer that might have been selected as the best offer. An independent panel of NPS representatives evaluated the offers. Mule Shoe Outfitters LLC is owned by Paul and Ginny DeToni of Wickenburg, Arizona.
