Contact: Melissa Wilson, 406-888-7895 WEST GLACIER, MONT. – Officials from Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park invite the public to Waterton-Glacier Science and History Day on Thursday, July 27, from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., at the Bayshore Inn Convention Centre in Waterton Lakes National Park, Alberta, Canada. The event is free of charge. Glacier National Park Superintendent Mick Holm stated, “Science and History Day is a wonderful educational opportunity for everyone interested in learning about some of the ongoing research in the Peace Park. We have 14 speakers who will present their studies in a non-technical manner. You don’t have to have a scientific background to benefit from Science and History Day." Waterton Lakes National Park Superintendent Rod Blair added, “We are very excited to be hosting Science and History Day in Waterton for the first time. As the world’s first international peace park, Waterton-Glacier has fostered peace and understanding for 74 years. Flora and fauna recognize no international boundaries, and Science and History Day demonstrates the cooperation of our scientific community. I encourage everyone to come to Waterton for this great event.” Holm also noted that the various presentations are organized into four thematic groups: vegetation; history/culture; management and human impacts; and wildlife. “Within these categories, a wide variety of topics will be covered including the Prince of Wales Hotel National Historic Site, visitor use patterns, pine beetles, wolf, black swift, bull trout, and bighorn sheep studies.” The conference is organized into two morning and two afternoon sessions, with a lunch break from noon until 1:15 p.m. Refreshments will be available during the breaks. Lunch is available at various restaurants in town, or attendees may bring their own lunch. Office of Public Instruction (OPI) renewal units may be available for U.S. teachers who attend this conference.
