WEST GLACIER, MONT. – Officials at Glacier National Park are seeking volunteers to work at the park’s Apgar Transit Center (ATC) during the 2008 summer season. Volunteers will assist at the ATC’s outdoor plaza area and will provide transit orientation for the Going-to-the-Sun Road (Sun Road) shuttle service, general park transportation information, and other assistance to visitors entering on the park’s west side.

Volunteers will generally work one six-hour shift per week during this year’s shuttle system operating season, July 3 through September 1, 2008. Volunteers will also be asked to attend two training sessions in June which will provide them with the necessary background and skills to assist visitors at the ATC.

“The Sun Road shuttle system was an overwhelming success last year, with over 130,000 people riding the shuttles. We know that our cadre of 27 volunteers was instrumental to this success. The volunteers were highly visible and provided invaluable information not only about the transit system, but also imparted tremendous insight into the park,” said Acting Superintendent Stephanie Dubois. “We look forward to working with this year’s volunteers. We know that they will again play a critical role in the shuttle’s operation.”

For information about these positions or to obtain an application, please contact Debby Mensch at (406) 888-7935 or debby_mensch@nps.gov. Applications should be received by May 16, 2008.

Information about the transit center and shuttle system is available online at: https://www.nps.gov/glac/planyourvisit/shuttles.htm.
