Glacier National Park's 2007 Campground Dates Announced

WEST GLACIER, MONT. – The 2007 opening/closing dates and nightly fee schedule for frontcountry campgrounds in Glacier National Park have been announced. In addition to the dates listed below, several of these campgrounds will also be open additional dates in primitive and/or winter status; see notes below. Officials note that there is NO water provided during primitive or winter camping seasons and that any water taken from streams or lakes will require treatment prior to use. Campgrounds will open at 8 a.m. and close/change status at 12 noon on the dates listed.

* Cutbank, Logging Creek, and Quartz Creek are in primitive status all season.

Notes:

- If necessitated by weather, Quartz Creek Campground may close prior to December 1.

- In addition to full service camping, Many Glacier and Two Medicine Campgrounds will offer primitive camping from September 24 through October 31, unless weather necessitates an earlier closure.

-Bowman Lake and Kintla Lake Campgrounds may open earlier and remain open after listed dates for primitive camping if road/ weather conditions permit.

- Apgar will be open for primitive camping in the picnic area from April 1 through May 3, and from October 15 through November 30.

- Fish Creek and St. Mary Campground sites may be reserved for camping June 1 through September 4 through the National Recreation Reservation Service website at www.recreation.gov, or by calling 1-877-444-6777. Campers without prior reservations are also welcome.

- St. Mary Campground will be open for primitive camping April 1 through May 25, and from September 24 through November 30. The campground is also open without reservations from May 25 through May 31 and again from September 4 through September 24. 

- Winter camping is available at Apgar and in St. Mary from December 1, 2007 through March 31, 2008.

- Primitive camping cost $10/night. There is no fee for winter camping, however a valid entrance pass is required.

- Primitive and winter frontcountry campgrounds have pit toilets, but no water and only a limited number of sites are available.

Group campsites are available at Apgar, Many Glacier, Two Medicine and St. Mary Campgrounds. Hiker/bicyclist sites are available at Apgar, Avalanche, Fish Creek, Many Glacier, Rising Sun, Sprague Creek, St. Mary, and Two Medicine Campgrounds. Nightly fees for group sites are $50 plus $5 per person after the first nine. Hiker/biker sites are $5 per person.

Visitors are reminded that winter entrance fees remain in effect until April 30. Beginning May 1, the seven-day single vehicle entrance fee is $25 and a seven-day single entrance (walker, biker, or motorcyclist) is $12. Even when the entrance stations are not staffed, an entrance fee is still required. Follow the posted instructions at the self-payment boxes at each entrance station.
