GIS supports Planning at Colorado National Monument
GIS is utilized to help draft alternatives in the park's General Management Plan currently being written. This map illustrates different management prescription alternatives being considered. Management prescription alternatives are developed with spatial information in the park's GIS. Many spatial layers are considered, including the park's unique geology, topography and historic structures as well as adjacent land ownership and land development. GIS also gives park staff and planners a way to directly compare and contrasts the results of their labors. Relative area calculations for prescription types and adjacent land use and ownership are shown.
