LizardTech / GeoExpress

The GeoExpress NPS contract has been renewed for an additional calendar year. Many thanks to the Natural Resources & Lands programs for making these services are available to all NPS.

The GeoExpress 8 client is available and can be attained through the EGIS website or your GIS coordinator.

Recommendations to use/optimize use for the NPS:

  • Install - use sidlic.nps.gov to access data cartridge (Tools > Data Cartridge > Use network ECM)
  • What is the Data Cartridge? - NPS purchases 3TB of compression (data cartridge) capability per year. The Data Cartridge is the method that Lizardtech uses to monitor use.
  • Important! The data cartridge is consumed the first time an image file is compressed, mosaiced, etc. Subsequent compressions do not consume cartridge. The recommended data flow is as follows:
    • Create a test image prior to processing or batch processing imagery (NOTE: tagging as test image does not consume data cartridge)
    • Process raw imagery and create lossless .sid
    • Store/archive lossless .sid file(s) for future processing
    • Important! Subsequent GeoExpress processing does not consume data cartridge.
    • Continue with work flow re-projecting, color balancing, mosaicing, additional data compression, etc.
  • Some data which is available or in process:
    • National Geographic TOPO! - procured through NPS Fire program. Data available as lossless .sid. Available through Regional GIS coordinators, Fire program and EGIS.
    • DOQQ - Work in progress lead by NR.
  • LizardTech site - Note knowledgebase under support.
