ArcGIS 8.3 Install Issues from BOR Notes

(I am including the USGS GIS Help, USBR GIS Help, and DOI contacts on this email - please be aware of the extensive routing.)

There seems to be a couple of gotchas on the installs. Thanks to all for your notes!!

ESRI specifically says do the Desktop CD first. If you get a failure then run from DOS the setup /cleanup. I have had the failure come up after the ArcGIS setup, just before the installs of ArcTutor/ArcObjects/Crystal Reports installs - sometimes you get the window, other times no window...

Finnally I still have some computers that don't seem to get the full set of fonts - the ArcGIS Desktop install bails on a 1308 error - if this happens just copy in the missing fonts from the ArcGIS Desktop Fonts directory (esri_130, 131,132,133) into the WINDOWS/Fonts directory (they will install automatically) and then restart the setup. Has worked every time now. Not pretty, but I have notified ESRI that this problem continues. But only on some computers.....go figure.

ArcObjects GLC38.tmp error - Steve added this one - his words:
I tried installing ArcGIS 8.3 Desktop followed by Workstation today and had the same problem. After installing the Desktop it came back with an error message telling me that it can't continue because GLC38.tmp is being used by another application. I searched for the file but it didn't seem to be on my computer. I just then ran the ArcObjects developer setup to get the developers documentation and samples loaded.
Oh yea - one other thing - you can no longer edit coverages in 8.3. I guess some folks are still doing this, but didn't realize how many....ESRI's made it pretty clear that this is going away...

Beyond that upgrades are going smoothly...
