Exercise 4: Health Assessment of Maritime Spruce-Fir Forest Populations
A fire ecologist study involves the health of the vegetation populations. Most vegetation maps show existing stands but do not indicate which species are present. Using the centroid of each stand, the fire ecologist must navigate to the plot and complete the health assessment.
Exercise Objectives:
At the conclusion of this section, you will be able to:
- Convert an ArcInfo interchange file to a coverage.
- Display and query vegetation by cover type.
- Create a new theme from a selection.
- Add X and Y coordinates using an ArcView script.
- Create a new point theme.
- Download and upload data to and from a Garmin GPS unit.
- Navigate to waypoints in the field.
- Hotlink photos.
- Enter information into an Access database.
- SQL connect to an external database and display data queries.
