Exercise 2: Working with Composite Burn Index and Normalized Burn Ratio data
Following a significant wildfire, a burn intensity study using Landsat imagery is useful for measuring relative burn intensity as well as capturing fire perimeter. The spectral content of the Landsat processing must be quantified in the field using Composite Burn Index (CBI) plots. These plots are established within the center of a uniform nine-pixel area of the processed Landsat image and in proximity to established roads and trails.
Exercise objectives:
- Add and display a grid as a range of values.
- Buffer selected features using the XTools ArcView extension.
- Create CBI plots within a buffer area.
- Download and upload data to and from a Garmin GPS unit.
- Navigate to waypoints in the field.
- Enter information into an Access database.
- SQL connect to an external database and display data queries.
- Set up and hotlink photos.
