This October, Dean Gettinger was appointed to the position of SER GIS Program Coordinator. Dean's arrival in the SER GIS Program Office marked one of several moves towards a revival of the region's GIS program.

Dean came into this position following five years serving as the SER Regional Fire GIS Specialist. Prior to that, Dean's experience includes work as a GIS Specialist with the Bureau of Land Management, as an environmental planner for a consulting firm, and as a pilot with the United States Army.

Dean's overall goal is "To build a customer oriented program that will provide Geospatial Information and Technology support and services to all program areas and divisions at all of our region's parks, both large and small. We are going to strive to move forward as quickly as practical. We have a lot of challenges ahead of us, but by capitalizing on all of the great work that is already being carried out across the region I feel confident that we can make rapid progress".
