Examples of YPP Funding Use
- Provide grant money for schools and other non-profit organizations to pay for transportation.
- Develop partnerships with minority serving organizations like Student Conservation Association, regional Service and Conservation Corps, Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Hispanic Serving Institutions, Tribal Colleges and Universities and other like organizations and institutions that serve identified underserved minority and economically disadvantaged population groups.
- Develop programs with partnership groups that would include both hands-on project work and a strong educational component. Groups could include Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Royal Rangers, 4-H, Campfire USA, or other non-profit organizations that have a substantially diverse membership. Projects could include habitat restoration, field research assistance, citizen science, site stewardship programs, Leave No Trace training, or Elder Hostel groups that mentor youth groups.
- Supplement the “Building a Better Future” program or the “Front Range Earth Force Conservation” project. Use YPP funds to cover housing and travel costs. Develop multi-level and/or multi-year youth programs to provide extended opportunities to youth as they advance through high school and college and prepare to enter the workforce.
- Support employee travel expenses associated with events such as regional scouting and youth group programs and other events that take place across the country.
- Support Teacher-Ranger-Teacher Program expenses such as housing, equipment, and travel.
- Provide grants and/or scholarships for diverse candidates to work on projects in parks and/or to attend training and education courses that parks provide.
- Support hiring seasonal employees from underrepresented population groups. For example: partnering with a Historically Black College or University to hire students to work as cultural resource interpreters.
- Use interns to lead and/or supervise youth educational and conservation programs.
- Enhance or expand the YCC program through the use of a partnership organization. For example: a partnership agreement with a non-profit organization that designs and facilitates environmental education programs for inner city YCC participants.
