The Civil War in 1865 and Beyond
Gettysburg National Military Park Mid-Winter Lecture Series 2015
Today's Program: "My God! Has the army been dissolved?!" - The Battles at Sailor's Creek, Virginia, with John Heiser, Gettysburg NMP
In the closing days of the war, two armies came to terms adjacent to a tranquil country stream ten miles north of Burkeville, Virginia. Nearly one-third of the Army of Northern Virginia, trapped in a Union vise of infantry and cavalry, fought a desperate and bloody battle. The loss was a devastating blow to a mortified General Lee who was left alone to rally the remnants of his shattered command on the road to Appomattox. Join John Heiser, Gettysburg NMP, as we take a detailed look at this disastrous event that ultimately led to the final days of Lee and his famous army.
This series of free, one-hour programs begins at 1:30 p.m. in one of the theaters at the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center. Additional lectures will take place on weekends through March 8 and are free of charge. Full schedule available by calling 717-334-1124 x 8023 or by visiting www.nps.gov/gettMore »
