The Civil War in 1864
Gettysburg National Military Park Mid-Winter Lecture Series 2014
Today's Program: "My time I suppose has passed, and I must now content myself with doing my duty unnoticed" - George G. Meade in 1864, with Chris Guinn
Not all of George Meade's battles were waged on the battlefield. The year 1864 found the victor of Gettysburg under attack from the northern press, the United States Congress, and from the ranks of his own army. Would Meade be able to win the second battle of Gettysburg? Would he be overshadowed by the emergence of U.S. Grant on the bloody battlefields of the Overland Campaign? Explore the most tumultuous year in George Meade's life.
This series of free, one-hour programs begins at 1:30 p.m., in one of the theaters at the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center. Additional lectures will take place on weekends through March 9 and are free of charge. Full schedule available by calling 717-334-1124 x 8023 or by visiting www.nps.gov/gettMore »
