A 53-foot tractor trailer containing exhibits featuring Pennsylvanians’ experiences during the American Civil War will make a stop at the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center, 1195 Baltimore Pike, Gettysburg, June 10 to 12. This traveling museum, the Pennsylvania Road Show, is a major initiative of the Pennsylvania Civil War 150, a statewide effort to coordinate and promote events for the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. Gettysburg National Military Park visitors can explore the interactive exhibits in the Pennsylvania Road Show and discover the stories of how Pennsylvanians experienced the Civil War, from the battlefield to the home front. The Road Show trailer will be stationed in Parking Lot 2 at the Museum and Visitor Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, June 10 through Sunday, June 12. Admission to the Road Show is free. Adams County is one of 67 counties in the state that will host the Pennsylvania Road Show from 2011 through 2015. "The Gettysburg Foundation is proud to host the Pennsylvania Road Show at the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center," said Gettysburg Foundation President Joanne Hanley. "This traveling exhibit will add another dimension for our visitors as they discover and experience the battlefield. They will be able to learn specifically about Pennsylvania in the Civil War. The exhibit will also link Gettysburg together with other areas around the Commonwealth as we commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War." In addition to the exhibits and interactive venues, visitors will have the opportunity to share their own Civil War-era photographs, memorabilia, stories and more in the "Share Your Story" recording booth at the Road Show. Material collected will be available to the public at PACivilWar150.com. The Pennsylvania Road Show exhibits and interactive venues complement the Cyclorama, Film and Museum Experience at the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center. The experience includes the Cyclorama painting program, the film A New Birth of Freedom—which tells the story of the battle, its aftermath and the Gettysburg Address—and the museum exhibits in the Gettysburg Museum of the American Civil War. Tickets for the Cyclorama, Film and Museum Experience are available in the lobby of the Museum and Visitor Center, by telephone at 877-874-2478 or at www.gettysburgfoundation.org. About the Gettysburg Foundation The Gettysburg Foundation is a private, nonprofit educational organization working in partnership with the National Park Service to enhance preservation and understanding of the heritage and lasting significance of Gettysburg.
