Richard Bartol, Jr. Educator's Conference 2014
The Richard Bartol, Jr. Educators’ Conference in Gettysburg is for educators who teach the Civil War era to middle school students in Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, New York, New Jersey and Washington D.C., and face challenges in connecting students to the Civil War or lack the necessary tools and approaches to effectively engage their students in Civil War exploration. Co-soponsored by Gettysburg National Military Park, the Gettysburg Foundation, and Gettysburg College, through generous donations from several companies, the conference will be held July 30 through August 2 at Gettysburg and is open to 50 educators.

John Burns, a 69 year-old veteran of the War of 1812 and resident of Gettysburg, fought side by side with Union soldiers on the first day of the battle of Gettysburg. His service is commemorated by a battlefield statue at Gettysburg National Military Park.
