All three units of Gateway-- Staten Island, Jamaica Bay and Sandy Hook-- are great places to ride your bicycle. Don't have a bike? You can rent a bike at Jamaica Bay, at Aviator Sports and Recreation, and at Sandy Hook, at Ray's Bike Rentals! Check out the maps below. (NOTE: Bicycles cannot cross several major bridges in the New York area.) Always observe the rules of the road while riding your bicycle through Gateway. Sandy Hook Unit MUP Map (pre-Hurricane Sandy) NPS image Sandy Hook Unit MUP (Multi-Use Path) Map Despite the best efforts of Hurricane Sandy, parts of the MUP trail remain open, especially in the Fort Hancock Historic District at the north end of Sandy Hook. Ray's Bike Rentals is usually open between Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, if not longer during the year.
