All three units of Gateway-- Staten Island, Jamaica Bay and Sandy Hook-- are great places to ride your bicycle.

Don't have a bike? You can rent a bike at Jamaica Bay, at Aviator Sports and Recreation, and at Sandy Hook, at Ray's Bike Rentals! Check out the maps below. (NOTE: Bicycles cannot cross several major bridges in the New York area.)

Always observe the rules of the road while riding your bicycle through Gateway. Wear a helmet and respect the rights of others using the roads and pathways.

Floyd Bennett Field is a great starting point for getting onto the Gateway Greenway bike path. Or you can cruise around the historic runways of "NYC's first municipal airport" and enjoy the historic structures and natural landscape.

Despite the best efforts of Hurricane Sandy, parts of the MUP trail remain open, especially in the Fort Hancock Historic District at the north end of Sandy Hook. Ray's Bike Rentals is usually open between Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, if not longer during the year.
