Canarsie Pier Vendors Wanted
Contact: Raina T. Williams, 718-354-4606
Gateway National Recreation Area is seeking vendors to provide goods and services to Canarsie Pier, Brooklyn, this summer. Commercial Use Authorizations have been issued for three types of vendors: food and beverages; bait and tackle; and farmers' market goods. Applications will be accepted by Gateway's Business Management Office from now until mid-May.
"What could possibly make Canarsie Pier an even better place to enjoy a summer afternoon?" asked Linda Canzanelli, superintendent of Gateway National Recreation Area. "Well, ice cream, for starters. Seriously, having cart vendors sell food, beverages, fishing bait and fresh, locally grown produce will benefit visitors and the local economy alike."
Descriptions of the conditions, along with application forms, can be found at http://www.nps.gov/gate/parkmgmt/businesswithpark.htm. Vendors will use their own mobile, self-contained carts to sell goods. Food and beverage vendors may sell bottled water, soft drinks, coffee and tea, pre-packaged snacks and foods produced in a commercial facility. Vendors may sell ice cream, fruit shakes, meat and poultry or falafel, among other foods. Farmers' market vendors must sell locally harvested or locally produced foods.
Canarsie Pier is located at the south end of Rockaway Boulevard in Canarsie, Brooklyn. It can be reached via exit 13 off the Belt Parkway. The historic pier, built in the 1930s, is a favorite for local recreation, including fishing. For almost 40 years, the pier has been a part of the Jamaica Bay Unit of Gateway National Recreation Area. The National Park Service holds an annual concert series at the pier during the summer.
