Pre-employment tests for surf-lifeguards begin Dec. 27, 2012

Gateway's three units --- Sandy Hook, Staten Island and Jamaica Bay --- regularly hire lifeguards for the summer season. While Gateway is still digging out, literally, from Superstorm Sandy, pre-employment tests for surf-lifeguards are right on schedule beginning December 27, 2012 at Elizabeth High School in New Jersey.

Wildland Firefighter, GS-0455/0462-05 (multiple vacancies; closes May 31, 2012)

The primary responsibilities of this position are to serve as a presribed fire tehnician in the implemenation and monitoring of wildland and prescribed fire-burning projects.

Assists in all aspects of wildland and prescribed fire operations including preparation, ignition, monitoring, holding, mop-up and rehabilitation. Serves as a Prescribed Fire Monitor, collecting and evaluating weather, fuels, topography and fire behavior data for presribed and wildland fires.

Serves as Ignition Specialist, Field Observer, Squad Boss or as a holding or ignition crew member on wildland and prescvribed fires as assigned.

Operates four-wheel drive pickup trucks and fire engines, portable pumps, chain saws and other common fire equipment.
