PHILADELPHIA- National Park Service Northeast Regional DirectorDennis Reidenbach has announced the selection of JBAY, LLC to operate beach club services at Silver Gull Beach Club and Breezy Point Beach Club. Both clubs are located in the Breezy Point section of Gateway National Recreation Area.

"For millions of visitors, these beach clubs offer a leisurely way to enjoy the beach just a few miles from home," noted Superintendent Linda Canzanelli. "Returning visitors will notice some new enhancements in the services offered, which may attract new users as well."

JBAY's parent company, Ortega National Parks, LLC, has more than 45 years of hospitality experience and over 16 years' experience operating concessions in the National Park Service, including at Bandelier, White Sands, Muir Woods, Carlsbad Caverns and Death Valley.

The beach clubs are both located on the Rockaway Peninsula in Queens, N.Y. Each beach club offers private cabanas, food service, recreation, and both pool and ocean swimming. Visitors can gain access to the facilities with seasonal and day-use passes. The clubs, which were formed before Gateway was created by Congress in 1972, are now run as concessions under the authority of the National Park Service.

The new concession contracts will authorize ten summers of visitor services under the National Park Service Concessions Management Improvement Act of 1998 which requires a competitive process. The NPS concessions program manages commercial visitor services that are necessary and appropriate for public use and enjoyment at National Park sites. The NPS solicited offers for these contracts through publicly released prospectuses in September 2011. The proposals for each prospectus were evaluated separately. JBAY, LLC was selected for both contracts using the criteria and evaluation method described in the federal regulations that govern NPS concessions operations, 36 C.F.R. §51.16(a) and (b). The new contracts become effective April 1, 2012.
