Park staff and volunteer facilitators present educator workshops in several national environmental education programs, including Project WILD on wildlife, Project WET on water, and Project Learning Tree on forest resources. Teacher Workshop: Introduction to Barrier Beach Islands
Sunday, October 25, 2009, 10 AM to 1 PM
at Jacob Riis Park Bathhouse, Fort Tilden
The Rockaway Peninsula barrier beach habitats offer the opportunity for exciting investigations of the physical and natural worlds. This dynamic resource is an excellent place to study the relationship between the environmental factors of this area and how they influence the adaptations evolved by plants and animals. After completing the workshop educators can schedule a teacher-led program where students in grades K-8 can explore the barrier beach at Fort Tilden. Upon completion of the workshop the teacher will be responsible for leading the class and ensuring chaperone participation. You can send in the application via mail, email or FAX.

Teacher Workshops at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center
Sunday, October 18, 2009, 10 AM to 1 PM, and;
Sunday, November 8, 2009, 10 AM to 1 PM
This workshop offers an introduction to the wildlife refuge – its plants, animals and natural habitats, and the logistics of bringing a class to the site. After completing the workshop, educators can schedule a teacher-led program where students in grades K-12 can explore one of New York City’s most remarkable natural areas. Upon completion of the workshop the teacher will be responsible for leading the class and ensuring chaperone participation. Apply via mail, email or FAX.
