 Bring Your Class to Gateway!

Teachers and students can explore most park sites by participating in a variety of ranger-guided programs and self-guided field trips. Some programs may require teachers to attend a workshop prior to the class visit.

Several sections of Gateway, including the National Parks of New York Harbor Education Center at Fort Wadsworth and the Jamaica Bay Unit sites- Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge and Riis Park, offer curriculum-based programs. Sandy Hook has many educational opportunities in both natural and cultural history: on-line, classroom-based and in the park.

Other programs for children and families, such as the Junior Ranger Program and Web Rangers, are described on our For Kids page.

Teacher-Ranger-Teacher Program at Gateway NRA

Teachers can work for Gateway National Recreation Area during the summer through the Teacher-Ranger-Teacher Program. During National Park Week in April, teachers wear their uniform to class and share their experiences with students.
