Stay Safe!

The Brandywine Valley Unit of First State National Historical Park is made up of more than 23 miles of trails. Currently, none of the park's trails are marked which may make it challenging for beginner hikers to navigate.

Here are some quick tips to help you HIKE SAFE at First State NHP:

Have a plan.
Inform someone of where you are going and when you plan to return.
Keep a flashlight and whistle with you.
Eat well, stay hydrated: carry plenty of water.

Stay on the trail.
Ask for HELP!
Familiarize yourself with the area, use a map.
Expect changes in the weather.

We also highly recommend wearing insect repellant to avoid being bit by mosquitoes, spiders, or ticks!
