Did You Know?
The first President to use the authority of the Antiquities Act to designate a national monument was Theodore Roosevelt in 1906 to designate Devils Tower National Monument in Wyoming. Sixteen presidents since have used it to protect features such as the Grand Canyon and the Statue of Liberty.
