After three Union corps crossed the Rappahannock River at Kelly's Ford on April 28, the Eleventh and Twelfth Corps marched to the Rapidan River at Germanna Ford where they crossed on the afternoon and evening of April 29. The Fifth Corps proceeded  to the Rapidan River at Ely's Ford. The three corps reunited at Chancellorsville on the afternoon of April 30. This photo shows the Union army crossing the Rapidan River at Germanna Ford a year later during the Wilderness Campaign.

7th Michigan Monument at Fredericksburg

In 2003, a monument to the 7th Michigan Infantry was placed where that unit crossed the Rappahannock River into the streets of Fredericksburg. It was the first Union regiment to cross the river during the Battle of Fredericksburg.The monument is on Sophia Street at the foot of Hawke Street.
