Childrens Programs 2014
From June 7 through August 9, children's programs will be offered at the Fredericksburg Battlefield Visitor Center on Fridays and Saturdays at 11:00 a.m. These activities will last about one hour and are recommended for kids ages 6-12. Come back and participate in all four different programs! No registration is necessary, however, groups should call in advance. Contact Peter_Maugle@nps.gov or (540) 373-6122.
Soldier Life - Find out about the uniforms, equipment, and life of a Civil War soldier (includes marching and drilling with wooden muskets). June 20, June 21, July 18, and July 19.
National Cemetery - Explore and discover the stories hidden behind the brick walls of the cemetery and of the soldiers buried there. June 27, June 28, July 25, and July 26.
Flags and Signals - Learn why these banners were so important as symbols and for communication - also make your own flag! July 4, July 5, August 1, and August 2.
Did You Know?
The Battle of Todd's Tavern was not the largest cavalry battle of the war, but may have been the most important. Confederate horsemen delayed the advance of the Union just long enough so that the Confederate army could win the race to Spotsylvania which extended the war for eleven months.
