    Albert Gallatin for Homeschool and Self-guided Groups

    These lessons were designed for homeschool or self-guided groups. The lessons are used in conjunction with background information on Albert Gallatin. The lessons can be used to prepare students for a visit to Gallatin’s home, Friendship Hill. There are two pre-visit activities, three on-site activities and three post-visit activities.

    Albert Gallatin: Champion of American Democracy – Unit 3: Post Visit Activities

    There are five activities in this section. Activity 1 - Student make a comic strip about Gallatin. Activity 2 – Students write a newspaper article about the Lewis and Clark expedition. Activity 3 – Student design a Whiskey Rebellion flag. Activity 4 – Students make a poster showing Gallatin’s accomplishments. Activity 5 – Student research important friends of Gallatin and write a short biography. This is unit 3 of three units in this teacher’s guide.

    Albert Gallatin: Champion of American Democracy – Unit 2: Pre-Visit Activities

    There are five lessons in this section. Lesson 1 covers important vocabulary words. Lesson 2 covers the Whiskey Rebellion and the Bill of Rights. Lesson 3 has the students plan for the Lewis and Clark expedition. Lesson 4 continues to teach about Lewis and Clark expedition and the geography they encountered. Lesson 5 has the students learn about the financing of the federal government by the Secretary of the Treasury. This is unit 2 of three units in this teacher’s guide.

Students will learn about Gallatin’s association with the Whiskey Rebellion, the Louisiana Purchase, the Lewis and Clark expedition, and the War of 1812. His contributions as Secretary of Treasury and later accomplishments are also covered. This is Unit 1 of the three units in this teacher’s guide
