Safety

In case of emergency, contact United States Park Police at 202-610-7500.

Because Frederick Douglass's house is on top of a hill, there are a lot of stairs at the site. Please use caution when climbing the stairs, especially in rainy or icy conditions. There is an accessible ramp on the hill.

Dehydration is a common safety concern at the Frederick Douglass National Historic Site. Drink plenty of water during your visit. There is a water fountain in the visitor center. Just remember food and drink are not allowed in the historic house.
