The National Capital Region (NCR), headquartered in Washington, DC, administers the National Mall and monumental core parks that were established at the same time the Nation's Capital was founded in the period 1790-1792. This oldest collection of national park areas, along with dozens of historic sites, natural areas, and Civil War battlefields comprise today's National Capital Region of the National Park Service. Did You Know?
Traditionally, from George Washington's time to FDR’s, inauguration day fell on March 4; this remained the case with few exceptions. However, the date was changed by the Twentieth Amendment to the Constitution to January 20 to reduce the post-election "lame duck" period; it took effect in 1937.
