How to Donate to the Park

Thank you for your interest in supporting Fort Washington Park. Your donation will enhance the programs and activities to protect park resources and the visitor experience at Fort Washington. The National Park Service has a proud tradition of celebrating charitable support and philanthropic contributions continue to make a significant difference at our parks today. We welcome and are truly grateful for your interest in being part of this legacy. There are several ways to support your national parks:

Direct Donations:

The park is able to accept direct donations. If you are interested in donating directly to the park, please contact the park manager at (301) 763-4600. We are unable to accept donations online at this time.

Did You Know?

The explosion aboard the USS Princeton in 1844 occured on the river near Fort Washington.

In 1844, President John Tyler was almost killed on the river near Fort Washington, when an experimental cannon exploded aboard the USS Princeton. Six were killed(including Secretary of State Abel Upshaw & Secretary of the Navy Thomas Gilmer) , 20 were injured. The accident prompted Thomas Jackson Rodman to develop a new way of casting artillery and the creation of the 15inch Rodman Gun, like the ones that can be seen at Fort Foote.
