Historic Fort and Visitor Center

The Visitor Center and Historic Fort are daily.

The first Sunday in April through the last Saturday in October the buildings are open 9:00-5:00.  The rest of the year they close at 4:30. 

The park grounds are open 8:00-sunset at all times.

Closed January 1, Thanksgiving, and December 25

Did You Know?
When the Civil War began, Fort Washington was the only existing fortification for the capital's defense. Fort Washington, nearly 12 miles down the Potomac, was built to guard against enemy ships during the War of 1812.
