Fort Vancouver National Historic Site is recruiting teachers in the Vancouver/Portland Metro Area to participate in the Teacher-Ranger-Teacher (TRT) program from July 10 to August 20, 2022. The Teacher-Ranger-Teacher program is a professional development opportunity for K-12 teachers to spend the summer acquiring new skills in place-based education alongside the National Park Service. A $3000 stipend is available for this 6-week opportunity. To apply, interested teachers should email their resume to Park Ranger Justine Hanrahan at justine_hanrahan@nps.gov by May 26, 2022.

Teachers participating in the Teacher Ranger Teacher program will have the opportunity to engage in park resources, participate in a webinar about lesson planning, develop at least one lesson to be used in their classroom or school, assist the park with an education project, and increase their understanding of place-based learning. This program will offer teachers a unique opportunity to infuse their teaching skills with NPS-based Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education resources and the use of primary sources and place-based learning. Administration of the program, professional development hours and graduate credit hours will be made available to participants through the University of Colorado, Denver (UC Denver) through a cooperative agreement.

Fort Vancouver National Historic Site is the only national park in the Vancouver/Portland Metro Area and serves thousands of elementary school students on field trip programs every year. Located on the north bank of the Columbia River, in sight of snowy mountain peaks and a vibrant urban landscape, this park has a rich cultural past. From a frontier fur trading post, to a powerful military legacy, the magic of flight, and the origin of the American Pacific Northwest, history is shared at four unique sites. Discover stories of transition, settlement, conflict, and community. In this summer opportunity, the Teacher-Ranger-Teacher will have opportunities to shape curriculum that reaches thousands of local students for years to come.
