Glimpses of the Past  June 21, 2012 "The Long Walk"

Las Vegas, NM: Fort Union National Monument announces its monthly Glimpses of the Past presentation, "The Long Walk" as part of our Civil War 150th Anniversary Series. The program will be held at the CCHP/Santa Fe Trail Interpretive Center, 116 Bridge Street, in Las Vegas, Thursday, June 21, 2012, at 7:00PM. From the Civil War to Indian Wars, Fort Union was involved in much of the history in the Southwest. Join Ranger Ravis Henry from Canyon de Chelly for an in-depth look on how the military operated in the 19th century and its effect on Native American Tribes.

Ravis Henry is a Park Ranger stationed at Canyon de Chelly National Monument in Arizona. His knowledge of the Long Walk and unique perspective will provide for a different view on the military during the Civil War.  Canyon de Chelly is the site where the "Long Walk" began on its way to Bosque Redondo.

The Glimpses of the Past series are free in partnership with the Citizens Committee for Historic Preservation. For more information, contact Fort Union National Monument at (505) 425-8025.
