"Battle of Glorieta Pass: A Shattered Dream"

Las Vegas, NM:  The "Battle of Glorieta" will be featured as part of the Fort Union National Monument Civil War 150th Anniversary Series on Thursday, July 19, 2012, at 7:00PMat the CCHP/Santa Fe Trail Interpretive Center, 116 Bridge Street.Between March 26 -28 1862, the citizens of Las Vegas, then serving as the temporary capital of the New Mexico Territory, anxiously awaited news from the field of battle at Glorieta Pass. At Glorieta Pass, elements of Coloradan, New Mexican, and US Army regular forces ferociously fought to stave off battle hardened Texas Confederate forces that were intent on reaching nearby Fort Union. Join Park Ranger Eric Valencia, Pecos National Historical Park, and discover the events that led up to the invasion of Confederate forces into New Mexico 150 years ago and how the Battle of Glorieta would ultimately decide the outcome of the Civil War in the Southwest.

Ranger Eric Valencia, a local resident of Pecos, New Mexico has been at Pecos National Historical Park for the last six years and is a member of the Protectors of the Battle of Glorieta Pass.
