"I am a Soldier"

Fort Union National Monument is kicking off its 150th Civil War Anniversary Series of presentations. The series will start with the monthly Glimpses of the Past presentation, "I am a Soldier" to be held at the CCHP/Santa Fe Trail Interpretive Center, 116 Bridge Street, in Las Vegas, Thursday, January 19, 2012, at 7:00PM. From reveille to Taps, a 19th Century soldier had to know much more than how to march. Join Ken Dusenberry and Rick Lohsen of the Artillery Company of New Mexico for an in depth look on how the military operated in the 19th century and the trials, tribulations, and responsibilities each soldier faced on a daily basis.

Both Ken Dusenberry and Rick Lohsen are avid historians that have delved into the life of military personnel of the 19th and early 20th century. Ken, a retired Police officer, and Rick, former soldier, Junior Officer of the Corps of Engineers, and teacher of physics at West Point have presented at numerous living history events and school presentations throughout New Mexico and Colorado since 1985.

The Glimpses of the Past series are free in partnership with the Citizens Committee for Historic Preservation. For more information, contact Fort Union National Monument at (505) 425-8025, or visit www.nps.gov/foun.
