All park sites will be closed on Thanksgiving Day (November 28), Christmas Day (December 25), and New Year's Day (January 1). This includes Fort Sumter, the Fort Sumter Visitor Education Center, and Fort Moultrie.
Civil War Sesquicentennial
April 12, 2011 marks the 150th anniversary of America's plunge into its bloodiest war. Fort Sumter National Monument will observe this historic occasion with nine days of living history programs.

Did You Know?
The incomplete palmetto-log fort used by Patriots during the June 28, 1776 battle of Sullivan's Island had no official name. Called Fort Sullivan by the British, the fort was later named Fort Moultrie in honor of its commander, Colonel William Moultrie. Fort Sumter National Monument, SC
