Memorial Day Weekend Events at Fort Stanwix
Rome, NY —  During this Memorial Day Weekend Fort Stanwix National Monument will host a series of events. These events include a French and Indian War encampment, a Saturday evening concert and a School’s Out at the Fort program.

The British 24 th  Regiment of Foot Visits
Rome, NY —  From Saturday, May 2, to Sunday, May 3, 2009, the British 24th Regiment of Foot reenactment unit will visit Fort Stanwix National Monument.  This encampment is an excellent opportunity for families to discover what life was like for British soldiers and families that followed the army.  The encampment will run from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, and from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, 2009.

Veterans Day Weekend Living History Encampment
On Saturday and Sunday, November 8 and 9, 2008, Fort Stanwix National Monument will host an 18th century living history encampment.  Reenactors from throughout New York State, as well as men and women from other states and Canada, will demonstrate what life was like at the fort when it was an active military post.  In addition to the events inside the fort, the Oneida Indian Nation will provide special programs at the Marinus Willett Center throughout the day on Saturday, November 8th.

(Rome, New York) – On Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at 1:30p.m. Fort Stanwix National Monument Superintendent Debbie Conway will present The President’s Volunteer Service Award  to the Oneida Indian Nations’ First Allies Living History program. The President’s Volunteer Service Award is given to groups and individuals who have contributed 4,000 or more of volunteer time.

This summer, the rangers and volunteers of Fort Stanwix National Monument are proud to present "Tuesday Fun at the Fort." Weekly, from June 24-August 19, children and their families may drop in anytime between 10:30 and Noon to learn something new and exciting about the fort. These children’s activities will be held on the lawn on the James Street side of the park in front of the Willett Center.

(Rome, NY) – Podcasts, cell phone tours and websites are part of the “Connecting Stories and Sites” project between Fort Stanwix National Monument and the City of Rome. NPS staff will develop a series of wayside /outdoor exhibits for the trails as well as cell phone tour stops, podcasts, a brochure and a website.

Fort Stanwix to Continue Landscaping Improvements
Rome, NY: Fort Stanwix National Monument will conduct another herbicide treatment to the park’s lawn the first week of May in preparation for planting grass seed. The result will be green grasses during the summer.

Hours of Operation on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day
President George W. Bush declared that Christmas Eve, Monday, December 24, to be a federal holiday in addition to Christmas Day.  In response, Fort Stanwix National Monument announces a change in its hours of operation.

“Holiday in the National Parks” Celebrated at the White House  (Rome, NY) – Fort Stanwix National Monument’s ornament is prominently displayed on this year’s official White House Christmas Tree.  The tree is the centerpiece of elaborate decorations celebrating the theme of “Holiday in the National Parks.”

Fort Stanwix Receives Excellent Grades
During July people from throughout the United States and several foreign countries toured Fort Stanwix. The results: 99% of visitors were satisfied with their overall visit and the site’s facilities; this up from 97% in 2006. And, 94% of these visitors demonstrated understanding of the fort’s national significance.

Fort Stanwix to Spray Herbicides on Lawn
In an attempt to control the weeds on the lawn and to prepare the grounds for a spring seeding, Fort Stanwix National Monument will spray two herbicides on Friday, September 21, 2007. The area to be treated is the south lawn between the fort and the Marinus Willett Center and Black River and Erie (east) Boulevards.

National Park Service Names Dennis Reidenbach as Northeast Regional Director
Washington, DC – NPS Director Mary Bomar today announced the selection of Independence National Historical Park (INHP) Superintendent Dennis R. Reidenbach as the new Regional Director for the Northeast Region which is headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He succeeds Bomar, who was sworn-in as NPS Director in October 2006.

Fort Stanwix Hosts Annual Naturalization Ceremony
Rome, NY: Fort Stanwix National Monument will host the annual September Naturalization Ceremony on Thursday, September 13, 2007 for the United States District Court, Northern New York District. The ceremony begins at 11:00 a.m. and will take place on the parade ground inside the fort. This year 107 people will be sworn in at the fort. These people have immigrated to the United States from all over the world and are proud to become its citizens.

Centennial Proposals Eligible For Matching Funds
Recognizing the partnership between Fort Stanwix National Monument and the City of Rome, the project Connecting the Park Stories and Sites is one of 201 proposals announced at a press conference in Yosemite National Park today to celebrate the 91st anniversary of the NPS. The $450,000 Connecting the Park Stories and Sites is one of nearly $370 million of proposals eligible for centennial challenge matching funds.

No One is Living in the Ditch at Fort Stanwix
In the 1770s and 1780s, when the fort was garrisoned by the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War, the wives and children of some of the soldiers lived in the ditch for protection. However, there are no women and children living in the ditch today.
